There is no escaping the reality of death. All human resources are powerless to restore a dead person to life. Many people find some comfort in the idea of a mysterious inner life called "the soul". But do we trust our own feelings or "intuition"? The Bible from first to last declares itself to be a message from God. It deserves our sincere attention.
Although prophecy is not just predicting the future, this booklet concentrates on that aspect. The Bible says quite definitively that the power to foretell the future belongs to God alone. The fact that past prophecies have come true demonstrate that prophecies of yet to be fulfilled will be.
While some protest actions are peaceful, others are vigourously political, and some resort to violence. But how should the follower of the Lord Jesus Christ react? The Christian's life is directed, not by prevailing circumstances, but by the commands of his heavenly Father.
This booklet reviews Bible teaching about the Second Coming, both the events that will lead up to that miracle and the reason for the Lord's Return. Both Old and New Testaments consistently show that the coming Kingdom of God will transform human experience.
Should a Christian take part in politics? Vote in elections or join political parties? Through an examination of how God reveals His manifesto for the world, and by looking into the examples of faithful Christians in the Bible, we find that the answer will surprise many.
It is impossible to read the gospels without being forced to ask why one so innocent and selfless as Jesus Christ should have suffered such a brutal and shameful death. The Old and New testaments show that in the death of Jesus we find both the love and grace of God. The crucifixion was no accident; it was not the day when everything went wrong. Instead, it was the triumph of God.
Is the devil really a fallen angel with hooves and a pitchfork? Find out what the Bible really means by terms such as "devil" and "satan", and how Christ has destroyed the devil.
What is prayer all about? Is it just an exercise in bringing pleasant thoughts into the mind? No - it is much more; a means of direct communication with God. No prayer is disregarded when it comes from those who sincerely seek Him. But the answer is not always "yes". It may be "no" or "wait". This booklet is concerned with Bible teaching on the subject, and looks at examples of faithful prayer in both New and Old Testaments.
Who or what is the Holy Spirit? What part does the Holy Spirit occupy in the work of God?
Open a newspaper these days, listen to the news on the radio or TV, and invariably you get the impression of trouble. Our world is torn by strife - strife between management and labour; strife between political parties, and between nations. It is beset by problems ... looming over all is the growing wold economic crisis ... the developing nations are in debt to the world banks ... with no prospect of ever being able to repay the loans.
But there is one source amongst us which has never misled us by encouraging false expectations. It is the Bible.
When the modern state of Israel came into being in 1948, a major Bible prophecy was fulfilled. Discover how this small nation is still at the heart of God's purpose - for all of mankind - and why the return of the Jews to God's land is a sign that Christ's coming is near.
From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible declares that God created this earth for a purpose. It is to be inhabited, and the inhabitants will all know His glory.
The Bible is accepted as one of the greatest masterpieces of the world's literature. It is quite unrivalled by any other work; but it is more than this: the Bible claims to be the written Word of God.
This booklet looks at the dilemma of having so many "Christian" traditions, and why contradictory doctrines have grown up, each claiming to be based on the same Word of God.
Jesus and his apostles plainly opposed false teachings. A true follower of Christ has a duty to read God's word with an open mind, and to be convinced for themselves what God requires of them.
The preaching of the Apostle Paul is used as the basis of this examination of the gospel message - that Jesus Christ had died and been raised again - and the associated teaching concerning God's judgement of mankind.
No mere rite or ceremony, baptism is a most significant event. It is both a simple act of obedience, and at the same time a profound symbol of identification with Christ - demonstrating that a believer understands God's plan of salvation and is turning away from the way of Adam.
God is not remote and passive. The scriptures plainly reveal Him as having love and compassion for His creation, and being grieved by the evil in the world. He has intervened in the past, and will intervene again to "wipe away all tears".
How do promises made to one man around 4,000 years ago have a bearing on our lives today? These promises, reaffirmed to the faithful throughout the Old Testament form the core of what the Apostle Paul termed "The Hope of Israel". This booklet shows how these promises are key to the faith of all followers of Christ.
